BOOK PROJECT ASSIGNMENT
By the end of the semester you will need to submit a book that includes three chapters about your
life. You have the freedom to design it and organize its chapters the way you like. (More
instruction towards the end of the semester about the book design and formatting). This book
will be divides into smaller assignments that you will submit throughout the semester.
Poetry genre: you will write three short poems for your book. Since the book will be
about your life chronologically, each poem will introduce a different phase such as
past, present and future. The poems are due with each assignment.
Narrative genre (the main content of the book): in this part of the book you will be
asked to write about three phases of your life (past, present and future).
1. Memoir (15 points): in the first chapter of the book, you will need to write 5 pages
double spaced memoirs about your life in the past. How do you see yourself 10
years ago? What are the stories that still present in your memory? How your past
influenced your present and your future? Pick up a memory from your past and
write about it. Your memoir is due on October, 7.
2. Present life: (see snapchat interaction for present life assignment).
3. Future vision (15 points): in the third chapter, you will need to describe your
future as you see it or you hope to see it. You can make connection between your
past and present to write about your future. Think deeply about yourself and your
major and what contribution you can provide to your society and your family.
Think about your surrounding and what happens in the world around you and
reflect on that. This chapter is 5-pages double spaced due on October, 31.
Evaluation and persuasive genre (foreword) (10 points): for this essay, you will
read one of your classmate’s books and write a foreword for it. The essential function
of a foreword is to argue for the importance of the book and to convince readers that
it is worth reading. We will also discuss the genre of foreword in class. This
assignment is 1 – 2 pages due on November, 14.
Informative genre (letter to the editor) (10 points): By the end of the semester you
will write one -page letter to the editor (addressed to me: Dr. Elbelazi)
informing me about your book and what did you discuss and write in that book. In the
same letter, you need to have one-page reflection on your progress as a writer and
what you learned from this process and the course in general. (I will provide you with
guidelines). This assignment is due on November, 28.
